Frequently Asked Questions

How to Use MindGain

MindGain easily mixes with just 12oz of fresh water in a shaker bottle or glass. Shake or stir it as you drink it to ensure the formula dissolves quickly, allowing you to get on with having your best day.

We believe in purity and performance. Our ingredients are no exception to this rule and given that they are all included in their most validated forms, at effective doses, solubility can be an issue in some cases.

We like to think of our sludge like the worm in a good bottle of tequila. Slam the sludge… it is where the magic happens.

Yes.

MindGain is caffeine free, so you can take it with coffee. In fact, coffee will enhance the effects.

Always consult with your healthcare practitioner if you are on medication and want to take MindGain.

MindGain is designed for occasional use. We have clients that take it frequently, and others that take it only before important events.

We recommend using MindGain every few days. We designed our box to contain 20 doses, which should last about a month.

This varies and is ultimately determined by your unique physiology. Many clients report effects within 30 minutes. Some clients require repeated use over a few days before the full effects are felt.
Well, that is all relative. It depends on how your unique physiology is currently responding to your life. Your diet, your sleep patterns and your genetics will all alter how much Mind you can Gain.

The Science of MindGain

How it works

MindGain provides physiologically relevant levels of neurotransmitter precursors. Your brain uses chemicals, called neurotransmitters, to send signals between cells. Your body, using nutrients you take in, makes these neurotransmitters. In particular, amino acids are critical to neurotransmitter form and function. Specific amino acids are able to cross the blood brain barrier, where your brain turns them into these signaling molecules. In the olden days, you would obtain all the nutrients you need from your diet. Nowadays, the demands we put on our brains far surpasses anything from previous times.

The Ingredients we use... and why.

L-Tyrosine is the amino acid precursor for dopamine and the other catecholamines (adrenaline and nor-adrenaline). Taking tyrosine has been shown to maintain cognitive capacity during times of stress. It is believed that this occurs through what is called a "repletion" effect.

What does this mean for you?

We wrote great article about this - READ IT HERE!

L-theanine is an amino acid that is found in green tea, but otherwise not common in your diet. It has been shown to increase levels of the neurotransmitter, GABA. Theanine supplementation has been shown to enhance focus under stress, and also increases accuracy on tasks. In addition, L-theanine supplementation along with caffeine has been shown to reduce the "jitters" associated with caffeine intake and actually enhance caffeine's cognitive boosting activities.

What does this mean for you?

Increased GABA is linked to a more relaxed state so you can stay cool, calm and collected in a high pressure situation. A relaxed mind is primed to perform.

N-acetyl-l-carnitine (ALCAR) is the acetylated version of L-carnitine, and is the more active form with regard to brain function. ALCAR plays multiple roles to support cognition. First, the acetyl group is known to dissociate in vivo and has been shown to act as a precursor to the neurotransmitter, acetylcholine. Second, recent research suggests ALCAR goes well beyond acting as a neurotransmitter precursor and is involved in mitochondrial health and energy production, specifically within the brain.

What does this mean for you?

Acetylcholine is well known to play critical roles in learning, memory and attention maintenance. In addition to providing the ingredients to make acetylcholine, ALCAR also maintains brain health through a potential role in mitochondrial function and has been shown to help prevent cognitive decline.

Choline is an essential nutrient that is closely related to B-vitamins, but is not considered a vitamin itself. It is critical to the formation of phospholipids as well as the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, and must be obtained from the diet. Despite its presence in a wide variety of foods, many people still do not meet the daily adequate intake.

What does this mean for you?

The cells of your brain (neurons, glial cells etc.) are made up of phospholipids and phospholipid metabolism has recently been shown critical to healthy functioning of the brain. In addition, acetylcholine is well known to play critical roles in learning, memory and attention maintenance. Choline intake has been linked to enhanced memory, neuroprotection and the prevention of cognitive decline.

Taurine is one of the most abundant amino acids in the brain. Unlike other amino acids, taurine does not form proteins. Taurine has been shown to have many effects in the brain including acting as an anti-inflammatory, protection of the brain from environmental toxins, and blood perfusion. In addition, a decrease in taurine levels has been associated with cognitive decline. More recently, taurine has been implicated in proper functioning of mitochondria through its antioxidant properties.

What does this mean to you?

Though the role of taurine in the brain is not fully understood, it is known that taurine is critical to proper brain development, brain function and the prevention of cognitive decline.

Pine bark extract is included as a source of procyanidins. Procyanidins have been shown to have positive effects throughout the entire body including increased blood flow, antioxidant activity and anti-inflammatory properties.

What does this mean to you?

Pine bark extract has been shown to enhance cognition in healthy individuals with mild cognitive impairment. Increasing blood flow to the brain allows for more rapid exchange of fuel and waste.

Maca is a plant related to the turnip, native to Peru, and is grown at high altitudes in the Andes mountains. Maca has various effects on the body from elevating mood, to boosting energy and sexual function, to enhancing cognition. Maca comes in various colours and each colour has its own unique properties, due to unique combinations of the active metabolites, macamides. At MindGain, we include black Maca powder, as this variety has been shown to have the most cognitive benefit. Macamides are structurally similar to the endogenous endocannabinoid, anandamide, and has been shown to bind to cannabinoid receptors itself as well as to prevent the break down of anandamide. In addition, other compounds present in Maca have been shown to prevent the breakdown of acetylcholine.

What does this mean for you?

Maca consumption has been linked with increased energy, elevated mood, increased memory and cognition. Many of these effects are believed to be due to the activity of Maca in both the cannabinoid and acetylcholine pathways.

An old favourite, Vitamin C is included due to the antioxidant properties and its ability to reduce both physical and psychological responses to stress. High blood levels of vitamin C have been shown to blunt physical stress response (cortisol levels) and also to allow individuals to "bounce back" more quickly after a stressful event. Vitamin C has also been shown to decrease anxiety and boost mood.

What this means for you?

Stay cool, calm and collected whenever everyone around you is stressing out. A relaxed mind is primed to perform.

Magnesium is a co-factor for hundreds of enzymatic reactions in your body. It plays a role in electrical nerve transmission, protection from excitotoxicity and (newer studies suggest) protection against anxiety and migraine headaches. Magnesium is involved in the production of ATP (the cells energy molecule) and regulates ion channels. Magnesium supplementation has also been shown to increase attention span, improve memory, provide more restful sleep, and is considered critical for overall brain health.

What does this mean for you?

Magnesium glycinate is a highly bioavailable form of magnesium. Including magnesium ensures that your brain has a basic nutrient it needs to create energy and regulate electrochemical signals appropriately.

P5P, the biologically active form of Vitamin B6, is a catalyst for over 100 enzymatic reactions in your body. It is required for the synthesis of various neurotransmitters, including (but not limited to) dopamine, serotonin, acetylcholine, and GABA. Vitamin B6 has also been shown to regulate homocysteine levels, which is critical to maintaining neuronal health.

What does this mean for you?

P5P is so critical to the formation of neurotransmitters, that all the precursors in the world won't have any effect without the presence of Vitamin B6 to synthsize them into neurotransmitters.
